Your Kingdom Come
In this powerful message, Pastor Josh reflects on the reality of God’s kingdom—not just as a future promise, but as a present invitation. As Heartbeat Church prepares for a focused season of prayer called Seven Days with Jesus, this sermon calls us to awaken to the Kingdom that is already in our midst—and to pray like we mean it.
The Kingdom Is Here—and It’s Meant to Be Experienced
Pastor Josh opens with a tender reflection on his son Nathan, recalling the small beginnings of childhood and drawing a parallel to how the kingdom of God often works: “It starts small—unassuming, ordinary. But give it time, and God will grow something magnificent.” He reminds us that we often underestimate our daily lives, thinking they’re insignificant—but the kingdom is found in the hidden places of obedience, love, and faithfulness.
He recaps the key parables from the Kingdom Series:
- The treasure hidden in a field that is worth everything you have.
- The mustard seed that grows into something far greater than expected.
- The party to which all are invited, but not all will enter.
- The urgency of being ready, because the kingdom will come suddenly.
But then Pastor Josh turns the corner: Is the kingdom only for the future? Absolutely not. Quoting Luke 17:21, he shares Jesus’ words: “The kingdom of God is in your midst.” This means the kingdom is not just where we’re going—it’s what we’re called to live in now.
“Imagine your family, your workplace, your finances filled with righteousness, peace, and joy. That’s the Kingdom of God here and now.”
It’s Not Just to Be Studied. It Must Be
Experienced.
Drawing from Romans 14, he explains that the kingdom is not about external rules like food and drink, but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. He candidly admits how religion, even in his upbringing, sometimes replaced relationship with rules. But Jesus offers something better—a lived experience of his kingdom in our everyday lives.
To illustrate the power of experience, Pastor Josh humorously shares a story about going to an Andrea Bocelli concert. Though the view was poor and the sound was better on YouTube, he realized why people still go: “We crave experience. Being there matters.” Similarly, God wants us not just to know about the kingdom, but to live it, feel it, taste it. Not just efficiency, but encounter.
How Do We Experience the Kingdom? Through Passionate Prayer
Here lies the central call of the sermon: Pray for the Kingdom to come. Jesus taught us to ask, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” If we want to live in righteousness, peace, and joy, we must pray it into our lives.
“The reason many of us don’t experience the kingdom is not that God doesn’t love us—it’s because we don’t pray.”
Passion, he teaches, is the mark of kingdom people. Referencing Matthew 11:12, Pastor Josh challenges the church to respond like those in Jesus’ day who “took the kingdom by force”—not with violence, but with zeal. “You can have passion without love, but you cannot have love without passion,” he warns. If we love God, we will pursue Him fervently.
He likens this to children receiving gifts with wide-eyed excitement. That’s how Jesus says we must receive the kingdom—as a child, with awe and joy.
A Season to Seek His Kingdom
As Heartbeat prepares for Seven Days with Jesus, Pastor Josh calls everyone to prayer. Not for dramatic sermons or spiritual hype—but for real, raw time with God, praying for our families, our church, and our city. He challenges the church to ask this week:
- “What do I want to fast from?”
- “What part of my life needs the kingdom to come?”
He humorously declares his own fast from Coke—an unexpected but heartfelt expression of his desire to see the kingdom come more deeply in his life.
“If you want the kingdom, you’ve got to dethrone whatever else has been king in your life.”
Final Word
This message is a clear: don’t settle for a distant kingdom. The King is already here. And He wants you to experience His reign—in your heart, in your home, in your work, and in your worship.
So pray. Fast. Seek. And let the Kingdom come
“Pray—if you want to experience the Kingdom of God in your life.”
