About Pastor Joshua Choi

Pastor Joshua Choi was born and raised in South Korea, and at the age of 20, felt called to pursue theological studies in Australia. He completed a Diploma in Missiology from the International Institute of Creative Ministries and earned a Bachelor of Theology through the Australian College of Theology. During his college years, he met Yoonah, a second-generation Korean Australian, who would later become his wife and ministry partner.

For over two decades, Pastor Joshua has dedicated his life to raising up the next generation of leaders and serving ethnic minority communities in Australia—particularly English-speaking Korean Australians. He has served as the lead English Ministry pastor in several large Korean churches across Sydney, where his heart for discipleship and cross-cultural ministry grew deeper.

In 2007, he founded Living Fire Ministries, a pioneering initiative focused on planting and strengthening English Ministries within Korean churches throughout Sydney and beyond. His leadership has extended across borders, as he continues to speak regularly at local and international conferences, ministering to English-speaking communities of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

In 2014, Pastor Joshua founded Heartbeat Church Sydney—an independent, non-denominational, multicultural (though predominantly Asian) church with a vision to live out the gospel wholeheartedly together. Under his leadership, Heartbeat has grown across three cities and continues to reach the next generation with a passion for faith, community, and purpose.

Pastor Joshua lives in Sydney with his wife Yoonah and their two children, Skye and Nathan.
