A Brief History of Heartbeat Church
Heartbeat Church Sydney began in 2014 as a humble church plant in Pastor Joshua Choi’s living room, with just a small group of families gathering to worship and seek God together. Since then, it has grown into a vibrant, multicultural community—made up largely of young families and single adults. Today, Heartbeat Sydney gathers regularly with around 100 people, including 20 children and 6 youth, and has moved across several venues over the years to accommodate its growth, including locations in Drummoyne, Rozelle, Lidcombe, Surry Hills, Concord, and now Merrylands.
In 2015, God opened the door for expansion when a group of Korean-Australians approached Heartbeat with a desire to plant a church in Melbourne. Heartbeat Melbourne was launched with 10 members who have faithfully upheld the church’s vision and continue to meet regularly in smaller gatherings. The Melbourne campus remains closely connected, joining the broader Heartbeat family for annual retreats, overseas missions, and online prayer.
Then in 2018, another opportunity arose—this time on the Gold Coast. Heartbeat Gold Coast was planted by a passionate group with a heart for second-generation English-speaking migrants in the region. Like Melbourne, the Gold Coast campus remains committed to the shared vision of Heartbeat and regularly participates in church-wide events and prayer gatherings.
From a living room to three cities, Heartbeat Church continues to grow as one family living out the gospel wholeheartedly together.
